Morning porridge/oatmeal

Want to know how to make morning porridge/oatmeal? Here’s the porridge for two we have almost every day of the year. We vary the type of fruit added – usually including any two of bananas, pear, apple, prunes and berries. The process takes around 15 minutes.

  • 50 g rolled oats (for two people)
  • 30 g steel cut oats (optional – you can just use 90g of rolled oats)
  • 0.5g salt or to taste
  • Add around 400 ml water to start.
  • Bring to boil, reduce heat to simmer.
  • After 5-7min add 30g of seed mix, stir though and add water as need to keep things porridgy.
  • Reduce heat, add banana and berries and cook a little further adding water as needed.

Steel cut oats

These are purely optional but we include them because they, and whole groats,  are the healthiest type of oat. Steel cut oats also add a bit of chew to the finished porridge but do take a bit longer to cook. They are the least minimally processed and have a better glycemic index meaning they are better for regulating your blood sugar.

Seed/nut mix

I add this after 5-7 min but you could put it in right at the start. Because it thickens the porridge I prefer to hold off adding it for a bit.
